A church hospitality usher plays a large roll in creating an atmosphere of welcoming and acceptance at a church. He/she is often the first person that people meet as they walk through the front doors, and it is his job to make them feel welcome and comfortable on a number of levels. Some of these duties include: taking up the collection at the offertory of the Mass, assisting people in finding a seat during crowded services, direct the Communion procession, assisting people as needed, and distributing the weekly bulletin at the end of Mass. Ushers are usually assigned to the Sunday Mass that they attend each week.
